Here’s a list of frequently asked questions… Can I bring my dog? Yes. Your dog must be on a leash and under control. Also, we ask that you please do not take your dog into the animal area as the animals become startled. Thank you! Is there an admission fee? Yes. You are welcome to park and browse through the Garden Bakery Shoppe FREE of charge. For entrance to the orchard and Children’s Entertainment Area there is a cover charge. Are there washrooms? Yes. We have many flush toliets and hand washing stations. Is the farm wheel chair accessible? Yes. We welcome wheelchairs and we do have one wheelchair-accessible washroom. Please note, due to the naturally un-level ground characteristic of the farm, electric chairs may find certain areas difficult to negotiate. Do you have baby changing facilities? Yes. We do have a facility in our family washroom area. Do you accept debit or credit cards? Yes. We accept Interac, Visa, and Mastercard. Do you offer pony rides? Yes. Weather-permitting, we have pony rides on weekends in the fall and pony rides on weekdays. During the ride, the accompanying adult walks with the child. The charge is $3.00 per ride. How long is the tractor wagon ride? It takes about 10 minutes to travel around the orchard. During apple picking you can be dropped off to pick apples and then get picked up afterwards. We also offer a scenic tour without picking. Do we have to pay for the apples we pick? Yes. Please select only the apples you wish to pay for. You are welcome to taste all available varieties at our information booth. Remember apples you pick and then decide not to purchase are wasted (they can only be used for cider in some cases, with a much reduced value). Do apples bruise? How delicate are apples? Yes. Apples do bruise. In fact, they are more delicate than eggs. Dropping or rough handling will cause bruising and the apple will not keep as well as an undamaged one. Is there a charge to park? No. Parking and entrance to the Garden Bakery Shoppe is complimentary. Can we bring a picnic lunch? Yes. The area around the pond at the North side of the entrance driveway is designed for visitors with their own lunch. We do not however, permit outside food to be brought into the retail, dining or Childrens entertainment areas or the orchard. Can we feed the animals? Yes. Some of our animals enjoy a snack and visit with the children. Any animals we wish you not to feed will have an appropriate sign posted. What apples should I use to make juice? A combination of apples works best. For example, McIntosh, North Spy and Red Delicious are a good combination. McIntosh could be used on their own, Red Delicious however, would be too sweet to drink by itself. Which apples should I cook with? All apples except Red Delicious can be used for cooking. We use Northern Spy in our pies. Apples for apple sauce are a matter of the taste you wish. For example, Courtland apples are white inside and do not discolour resulting in a white sauce (or pink if you add the pink peel!). Where should I store my apples? Cool your apples as soon as possible after picking, keeping them in a refrigerator or cold storage area stored in a plastic bag – they will keep crisp for six to eight weeks. Do you make your own pies? Yes. All of our pies are made and baked by Chudleigh?s. |
